an expansion of space
reimagining chaos
The observable Universe did not start with an explosion. The Big Bang Theory, as it is called, describes an expansion of space, not an explosion into space. This means we live in an expanding universe. This means life in its innumerable forms is possible because of thoughts that are nearly impossible to comprehend. What else becomes possible if we reimagine chaos as expansions rather than explosions?
I wrote on Instagram a few hours ago that I don’t know how to use the billionaire apps anymore. Maybe you’re here because of that - if so, welcome, and thank you. It’s true. I don’t know how to use those apps anymore. I always felt conflicted, but the last few days have increased that. Everything I love about these apps - the humor, the collective teaching, the way we are able to share with each other - I still love that. But everything I distrust about these apps - the monopoly, the manipulation, the addiction - that is only magnified.
I haven’t disconnected my social accounts, or turned them private. I haven’t done anything, really, except shift my attention slightly. So here I am on another app. But this one allows an expansion of thinking that I appreciate. I am curious about what will shift if we shift away from caption limits. I am curious about the space we are expanding into.
The Big Bang Theory, and all other scientific ideas, are theories, not facts. Facts are data; theories are the stories and ideas we form with that data. Nothing is ever proven, it can only be supported or refuted. We keep searching for more evidence not to prove any given theory, but to move our understanding closer to the truth. This is the beauty and the freedom of the scientific method. It can also be the beauty and the freedom of our full and expanding lives, if we let it.
What are we treating as fact, that might only be a theory? How might we shift our perception from trying to prove something, to trying to understand more clearly?
I find myself uninterested in hot takes. I find myself exhausted by rehashing my disgust. I am interested in sharing ideas, and learning together. I’m interesting in moving my understanding closer to the truth.
So I think for at least the time being I’ll be here more, sharing more deeply than I can on the other apps. I’ll also continue to share with my email list that you can join through my website. I’m guessing I’ll gain more clarity about how and what I share over the next few weeks and months, and I’m guessing we’ll all be in a continual process of adjusting and shapeshifting as we navigate changes as they come.
Thank you for being here, not just here on this Substack - although I am certainly grateful for that. But for being here, in this messy, beautiful world. I don’t know what the future holds for us. But I know I believe in love as animating force. I believe in the power that comes with remembering that we belong to the earth and air and water. I believe in the healing that comes when we remember ourselves as kin to trees and stars, not concrete streets. I believe in what is possible when we remember ourselves as earth embodied. And I believe in the ability of loving, committed people to create beauty even amongst the ugliest conditions. So I believe in us.
